Dundalk 3, Blues 0 (1/5/17, Oriel Park, Dundalk EA Sports Cup)

The better team won last Monday at Oriel Park and the travelling Blues' fans were honest enough to acknowledge this. They enjoyed their day trip to the Wee County in the warm sunshine but that was it. Back to business now in preparation for the visit of the red Dubs, Shelbourne.

The Blues contested well for an hour but then the wheels came off and the Lilywhites ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at the complaints.

Despite a decent opening half hour the Blues threatened very little up front. Lots of box to box work but no penetration. Dundalk were scarcely any better up to the break but they got down to business upon the resumption, slowly getting on top and went on to find the net three times before the final whistle. Despite this the Blues carved out several good chances during the second half - Tom Smith, Jack Lynch and Dean Walsh all putting in good shots without hitting the target unfortunately. Mark O'Sullivan also...his was the best chance of all but he failed to convert from close in.

Former Blues favourite Paddy Barrett lined out for Dundalk and was warmly greeted the Blues' fans. The new plastic pitch in Oriel Park certainly looks pretty and cannot be as bad as the old one which was years beyond its sell by date or dig up date or whatever. Regardless is was always a distinct advantage to Dundalk as will be the new one.

Two trophies still to play for.

C'mon the Blues!
