Blues 0, Cabinteely FC 0
With absolutely nothing in the game to excite the small crowd of just over 200 at the RSC, this was typical end of season, bottom of table fare.
Roddy’s line-up said it all, with nearly all of the experience gone out of the side. Many there wished to hear the end whistle blown early last Friday night. In fact there will be many who would wish to hear the end of season whistle blown!
James Hussey will be pleased that he kept a clean sheet but it must be said that the Cabinteely attack had very little to offer. Not that the Blues attack offered much more if anything. When it was announced that Dean Walsh had succumbed to flu just before the game any chance of taking three points went down the drain.
Nearly every movement from the two sides broke down in the final quarter.
David O’Leary was excellent and was well partnered at centre back by Ian Sinnott, who has certainly grown up this season. Playing regularly in the Blues’ defence tends to accelerate that process! Cory Galvin was his usual bundle of energy but there was nothing at the end of all of his work. Sean Noble and Dylan McGuire just about rose above average. Owen Wall, normally so impressive seemed lack energy.
There are reasons why Cabinteely and Waterford occupy second and third last spots in Division 1 and they were all to be seen last Friday night at the RSC. It really was hard on the eye. To be honest the Blues were lucky to get NIL!
Cabinteely fielded with two former Blues - Evan Galvin and Mark Slater. An unusual feature of the game was the meeting of the Galvin twins on opposite sides.
Next up a trip to the little Cawkies who are doing quite well these days. Former Blues’ manager has got the best out of the very limited squad at his disposal. Blues’ fans will continue to wonder how he could not do so with a much superior Blues’ squad a few years back.
C’mon the Blues!
