So, a very satisfying start to the Roddy Collins era at Waterford United. A comfortable 3-1 win (although till late in the second half we had a lingering fear that we were going to concede late again) made safe by spring-heeled Willie John Kiely who outjumped the Cabinteely keeper at a corner to secure the points late on.
A general good mood was prevalent at the RSC and it will be nice to build on this over the coming games. Certainly we've been devoid of nights like this for a while.
Largely the team which finished at Harps started on Friday - with the exception of Dylan Mernagh who was unavailable and who must merit a start when he's back available. Hard to see who's going to drop out. Willie John had a super night with two good goals, Shaun Corcoran and Ethan Boyle also looked well up for it. Most critically however, there was a feel-good factor about the team and Roddy's presence on the line made sure no-one was going to drift out of the action. Nice to see a good rapport developing between him and the rest of the back-room team, most notably Tommy Griffin.
Next up a trip to Shelbourne and then another date in the capital with a the diversion of the Cup and a trip to meet Tolka Rovers. Both eminently winnable ..... but hold on, let'snot get carried away!
